Asian Archive

An archive of myths, legends and folktales from the many culturally diverse societies of Asia. Ancient stories have been passed down in oral form or recorded in Asian literature for many thousands of years.

 

For the purpose of this archive, we have divided the Asian continent into six geographical regions. They include North, South, East, West (Middle East), Southeast, and Central Asia.

East Asia

East Asia is defined as being the region consisting of China, Hong Kong, Macau, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.

Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia consists of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Southeastern Asia also includes what has been termed the East Indies, or the Malay Archipelago: East Malaysia, Indonesia, Western New Guinea, and the Philippines.
